Mumbai Weather Update 04 January 2024: Mumbai experienced its chilliest day of the season as the temperature dropped to 18.4 degrees on Wednesday. While this is just a degree above the normal range, it marks a noticeable dip in the city’s winter temperatures.
Winter Season Update: From January to February
The India Meteorology Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory noted that the current winter season began in January and will continue until February. In comparison, the previous season stretched from October to December 2023. During the last season, Mumbai recorded its coldest day on December 24, with a night temperature of 18.9 degrees.
Reason Behind the Temperature Drop
According to Sushma Nair, a scientist from IMD (Mumbai), the current dip in temperatures is due to northerly winds blowing towards Mumbai. These winds contribute to the colder weather experienced in the city. Nair explained that this pattern might persist throughout the week.
Bracing for Cooler Nights: 18 to 20 Degrees Expected
Mumbai Weather Update 04 January 2024: As Mumbaikars adapt to the colder spell, the night temperature is anticipated to range between 18 and 20 degrees for the remainder of the week. This slightly cooler weather than usual is a result of the ongoing northerly winds affecting the region.
