DA Hike for Central Govt Employees

Following the recent decision by the central government to increase dearness allowance (DA) by 4 percent for its employees under the 7th Pay Commission, several state governments have also decided to boost DA for their employees during the festive season. With this decision, the DA for central government employees will increase to 46% from the existing 42%. The DA hike will be implemented from 1, July 2023, the Centre said.

Let’s take a look at the states that have increased this important allowance and the percentage by which they’ve raised it.

Assam Hikes DA by 4%

The Assam government last week announced hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for the state government employees by 4%, and with that, the total DA for them has been increased to 46%. The latest hike will be effective from from December 1.

The Assam government said the arrears effective from July 2023 to November 2023 will be paid in two equal installments with the first in December and the second in April, 2024.

Maharshtra DA Hike by 2%

The Maharashtra government has given Diwali gift for state government employees by announcing DA hike by 2%. In June this year state government has already took decision to increase DA by 4%. Now it has been decided to increase DA by 2% to make it 44% aggregate.

Tamil Nadu Raises Dearness Allowance by 4%

In the spirit of Diwali, the Tamil Nadu government has decided to increase Dearness Allowance (DA) by 4 percent. The announcement came on Wednesday, stating that state government employees, teachers, and pensioners will enjoy a 4% hike in DA, effective from July 1 of this year.

This brings the DA rate up from 42 percent to 46 percent, following the accepted formula aligned with the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.

Arunachal Pradesh Increases Dearness Allowance (DA) by 4%

On November 10, the Arunachal Pradesh government, led by Pema Khandu, announced a 4% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners. This brings the total DA and DR to 46%.

The hike, effective from July 1, means that employees will receive arrears for four months, and their increased salary will be applicable from November. The revised DA rates apply to regular government employees, while DR will be provided to state government pensioners and family pensioners, according to an official order.

Chandigarh Raises Dearness Allowance (DA) by 4%

Spreading festive joy, the Chandigarh UT administration raised the Dearness Allowance (DA) for government and Chandigarh administration employees by 4% during Diwali. With this increase, the DA rises from 42% to 46%, benefiting around 20,000 employees. The UT administrator adopted the October 20 order from the Government of India, enhancing DA rates for central government employees in Chandigarh administration from July 1.

Karnataka Increases Dearness Allowance (DA) by 3.75%

Similarly, the Karnataka government announced a 3.75% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, including pensioners, raising it from 35% to 38.75%. The government also shared that lecturers on the UGC/AICTE/ICAR scale and judicial officers would receive a four percent DA hike.

Uttar Pradesh DA Hike by 4%

The Uttar Pradesh government announced a 4% hike in the dearness allowance (DA) for the state government employees and pensioners as a Diwali gift. With this, the DA was increased from 42 to 46%, the chief minister’s office said in a statement.
