Enforcement by Mumbai Police

To enforce the court’s directive, the Mumbai Police has geared up to patrol the streets and warn individuals violating the stipulated time frame. Offenses will be registered for non-compliance. While acknowledging the difficulty in controlling cracker bursting within housing societies and complexes, the police assure stringent measures in open spaces where such activities are common.

Mumbai experienced a decline in air quality, with the AQI touching 193, approaching the ‘poor’ category. Out of 23 monitoring stations, 12 reported AQI levels ranging between 200 and 300, indicating poor air quality. This alarming situation prompted the court to raise concerns about the manufacturing and sale of chemical firecrackers.

To address these concerns, the court has established a committee comprising environmental and air pollution experts, along with a retired bureaucrat.
