MBMC QR Code Model In Waste Management: MBMC Secures ₹1.50 Crore CSR Funds for Revolutionary QR Code Model in Waste Management!

MBMC QR Code Model In Waste Management

MBMC QR Code Model In Waste Management: The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has taken a significant stride towards enhancing waste management with the procurement of ₹1.50 crore in corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds from a prominent multinational bank. This funding is earmarked for the expansion of the Quick Response (QR) code model, a pioneering approach to monitor and streamline the daily door-to-door waste management process throughout the twin-city.

Expanding the QR Code Model: A Solution to Segregation Challenges

In the twin city of Mira-Bhayandar, the overall quantum of segregation at the source remains disconcertingly below 65%. Recognizing this challenge, MBMC initiated a pilot project in one of its wards last year, yielding a remarkable 90% increase in at-source segregation. Buoyed by this success, MBMC has resolved to replicate and scale up the QR-based model across residential, industrial, and commercial establishments throughout the twin-city.

Corporate Support for Innovative Solutions

The proposal to engage corporate houses for funding received an enthusiastic response from the bank, facilitating the realization of this transformative initiative. Sanjay Katkar, the civic chief, expressed confidence in the efficacy of the QR-based model to revolutionize waste management practices.

Project Details and Implementation Strategy

MBMC QR Code Model In Waste Management: The project entails a comprehensive investment of ₹1.48 crore, encompassing trained manpower, software development, maintenance, one-time QR code printing, and citizen engagement facilitated by a startup. Over 3 lakh households and commercial establishments will be covered under this initiative.

During waste collection, sanitary workers utilize QR code scanning technology affixed at the entrance of each household to record feedback on waste segregation practices. Any non-compliant segregation instances are documented through photographs and uploaded onto a specially designed software platform.

The software, developed under the auspices of a Central government initiative promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, facilitates real-time monitoring, data collection, and complaint resolution. A dedicated war room at the civic headquarters serves as the nerve center for monitoring and analyzing system output, enabling proactive intervention in non-compliant cases.

Empowering Sanitary Workers and Citizen Participation

Sanitary workers assume a pivotal role in the operationalization of this system, ensuring adherence to waste segregation protocols and fostering community engagement. Through QR code scanning and real-time reporting, they facilitate a seamless waste management process while encouraging citizen participation through the complaint module embedded within the software.
