Yellow Alert For Mumbai

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) recently issued a Yellow Alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, anticipating thundershowers over the weekend. As per the forecast, the maximum temperature is expected to be around 24 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Let’s delve into the details of the weather conditions in Mumbai and the surrounding areas for the upcoming week.

Unpredictable Rainfall Patterns

Mumbai experienced a brief period of intense rainfall on November 9, affecting various areas such as Mulund, Malad, Goregaon, Kalyan, Dombivali, Thane, and parts of Navi Mumbai. The IMD attributes this to a trough moving towards the Maharashtra coastline, potentially bringing rainfall to several coastal districts, including parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan region.

Weeklong Weather Outlook

According to the IMD forecast, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 32-36 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature hovering around 23-25 degrees Celsius throughout the upcoming week. Although the frequency of rainfall in Mumbai has decreased since the departure of the monsoon, the city still experiences rain when specific weather systems or troughs form, typically in November. From December to April, Mumbai is generally dry.

Maharashtra Weather Update

Anupam Kashyapi, Head of the Weather Forecasting Division at IMD Pune, highlights the influence of strong easterly waves, indicating a high likelihood of rains over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada from November 23 to 27. The IMD suggests that light to moderate rains may occur during this period, driven by moisture-laden easterly winds impacting parts of Maharashtra, including the coastal Konkan region and Goa.

Weather Forecast for Pune

Pune, situated in western Maharashtra, is expected to experience very light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder from November 24 to 27. Clouding is anticipated on November 24, with significant showers on November 25 and 26, tapering off by November 27. The weather department predicts clearance around November 28.

Extended Trough Impact

The Konkan administrative division, which includes Mumbai and surrounding districts, is currently under the influence of an easterly trough. This trough, responsible for rain along the Tamil Nadu coast, is expected to move from east to west, passing over Kerala and its neighboring regions. Mumbai is likely to witness rainfall between November 25 and 26 due to the extension of this trough.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Mumbai and its neighboring areas are bracing for a spell of rainfall as per the IMD’s Yellow Alert for Mumbai. Residents and authorities are advised to stay informed about the changing weather conditions and take necessary precautions during this period of expected thundershowers. The weather outlook suggests a dynamic week ahead, with fluctuating temperatures and the possibility of rain, providing a comprehensive understanding of what to expect in the coming days.
