Delhi’s Cold Snap
Delhi is shivering as the temperature takes a nosedive to 4.9 degrees Celsius, marking the coldest day of this winter season. The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) monitoring station in New Delhi-Safdarjung reported this chilling minimum temperature.
Citywide Chill
Not only the central areas but also other parts of Delhi are feeling the freeze. Lodhi Road and Ayanagar witnessed minimum temperatures of 5 degrees Celsius and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively. This drop is significantly below the usual temperatures for this time of the year.
Temperature Trends
Comparing to Thursday, when the minimum temperature was 6.2 degrees, and the maximum reached 24.1 degrees Celsius, Friday’s dip is notable. This colder spell follows a trend of below-normal temperatures earlier in the week, with Monday at 6.5 degrees Celsius and Tuesday at 6.8 degrees Celsius.
Hisar in Haryana
Hisar in Haryana takes the crown for the coldest place in the plains of India, recording a minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius.
Winter Fog Woes
The onset of winter brings dense fog to several parts of north and northeast India, affecting visibility and disrupting daily life. Isolated pockets in Punjab experienced very dense fog, while areas in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura saw shallow to moderate fog on Friday morning.
Delhi vs. Shimla
Surprisingly, Delhi is colder than Shimla, Himachal Pradesh’s capital, with a morning minimum temperature of 6.8 degrees Celsius. In contrast, Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to hover around 24 degrees, while Shimla’s maximum is forecasted at 15 degrees.
